The advance on Helghast was a general offensive mounted by the Rift Wardens, who attacked an intermediate defence line held by the Ultramarines under Marneus Calgar. This was combined with a Terminator teleport assault, which allowed the Rift Wardens to support the primary attack from behind the enemy lines. The strategic objective of a breakthrough was not achieved but the tactical gains were considerable, the front line was advanced and many casualties were inflicted on the Ultramarines.
