Battle of the Omnissiah's Shrine - Megaborealis

Points: 1500.

Deployment: Front Line

Primary Objective: Duel.

The shrine with the holy shrine to the machine god, was strategically significant  as from it's position, the whole of Bore-Hive Ultris could be seen and dominated. Arthurus decided to send in three companies worth of battle brothers to reclaim this site from the foul daemons of Slaanesh.

The Rift Warden attack began in the dark of night, and was led by Arthurus himself. The chapter master brought split his companies worth to form left and right flanks. They launched their attacks against the outlying defensive cordon of demonettes. The space marines lacked dreadnoughts or vehicles, and the fighting was fierce. Bladeguard were able to defeat counterattacks in brutal close quarters combat.

After several hours of heavy combat, the Rift Wardens managed to force the daemonettes forced to withdraw into the shrine itself. The space marines used this brief lull in the fighting to bolster other depleted formations.

As midday approached, the Riift Wardens began a coordinated advance on the shrine from three separate directions. Under heavy pressure, the daemons, after heavy hand to hand combat, withdrew eastwards. They ran into Arthurus' detachment and this combat was viewed as the first significant victory of the assault.

At the end of the day, the daemons of Slaanesh established defensive positions. Subsequent attempts by the space marines saw their numbers reduced by the savage attacks of the defending daemons. By the next afternoon, the daemons pushed the Rift Wardens back into the bore hive.

On day three, roaming bands of daemons attacked and took back control of the districts around the shrine, and fought back numerous counterattacks by the space marines. After regrouping and strengthening their numbers, the daemons initiated a strong attack but it was repulsed by Arthurus' depleted forces, although the demons likewise suffered heavy casualties.

Purge The Foe - Hadex

Points: 1500.

Deployment and Mission: Hammer and Anvil / Martial Pride.

Primary Objective: Purge The Foe.

Detachment: Gladius Task Force.

Opponents Detachment: Champions of Vehemont.

This was an engagement fought between the two space marine forces, on the south-west corner of Hadex City. The Rift Wardens were led by their chapter master Arthurus and the Black Templars by chaplain Grimaldus. The battle was fought around a new long abandoned Arbites quarter. Arthurus goal was to stall the Black Templar forces and give his chapter time to prepare defences against the oncoming forces. The battle was brief and for a time, the Black Templars led a ferocious attack but the defensive tactics of the Rift Wardens held them back with minimal losses. Eventually, with Grimaldus struck low, the Black Templars retreated. This was the first victory on Hadex for the Rift Wardens but it would not be the last.

The Hadex Offensive - Hadex

Points: 1500.

Deployment and Mission: Last Stand / Adapt or Die.

Primary Objective: The Ritual.

Detachment: Anvil Siege Force.

Opponents Detachment: Righteous Crusaders.

The Hadex Offensive was a major part of the war between the Rift Wardens and the Black Templars. It was an attempt by the Rift Wardens, led by Captain Pellenor, to seize the territories under the control of their rival chapter.

The two chapters classed and the Rift Wardens managed to advance into the disputed districts of Hadex City. Early on, Pellenor concentrated on preparations for a strike deep into enemy held territory. He anticipated that this would lead to the destruction of a great many Black Templar sword brethren and force them to concede this corner of the city.

The campaign was conducted over several weeks. At first, the war was successful for the Rift Wardens, who did successfully recapture territory, but soon the campaign's momentum halted and was dramatically revered, due to High Marshall Helbrecht leading a counter-offensive. In the wake of this advance, the Black Templars managed to create a new front and no man's land.

The Purge of Talos Hive - Talos

Points: 1500.

Deployment and Mission: Sweeping Engagement / Martial Pride.

Primary Objective: Terraform.

Detachment: Anvil Siege Force.

Opponents Detachment: Invasion Fleet.

The Purge of Talos Hive was one of the most terrifying raids conducted by the hive mind against the Imperial forces inside and around Talos Hive. The effect was a pincer maneuver some miles behind the front lines, and the Tyranids were able to overrun strategically important sites held by the Rift Wardens, including a major transport line, a supply depot and several ammunition caches.

The battle, along with similar timed raids against Imperial positions throughout the region resulted in a complete disruption of Imperial forces. The Imperium lost approximately two entire regiments of Astra Militarum and a large amount of material. The Tyranids overran the entire area although many were left within and surrounded.

Deployment and Mission: Tipping Point / Point Blank.

Primary Objective: Unexploded Ordnance.

Detachment: Gladius Task Force

Opponents Detachment: Librarius Conclave.

The Rift Wardens dispatched small kill team forces, supported by their Knightly allies, to capture vital strategic targets. This forced the Deathwatch to retreat further north, into the ruins of the indiginous inhabitants, where the two marine forces engaged in point blank street fighting.

The Walls of Gothos - Dharrovar

Points: 1500.

Deployment and Mission: Tipping Point / Fog of War.

Primary Objective: Purge The Foe.

Detachment: Anvil Siege Force.

Opponents Detachment: Hammer of the Emperor.

Captain Andred was in command of a force stationed along Gothos' northern walls. His company sized force was primarily infantry based with a mere handful of tanks and dreadnoughts in support. On the night in question, a sentry on the wall overlooking the northern fields was summoned for a briefing with Andred. With his disappearance, and the sun slowly rising, a force of armoured tanks rushed the walls, blasting great holes in the outer defences and achieving a surprise attack. The Rift Wardend were taken by surprise as artillery shell and heavy bolter rounds slammed into their defences. Within the first few minutes several marines fell as casualties and even Andred suffered grievous wounds, and had to be pulled back into safety. From here, Andred was able to direct his men while the apothecaries saw to his wounds. The enemy Astra Militarum forces attempted to surround the space marines position but later retreated, all while under heavy lascannon fire.

After this, Andred sent one lieutenant to locate assistance from nearby allied forces. He was shot but managed to reach the chapter's knightly allies in House Avalon. The Knights swiftly marched to war against the enemy tanks. Their aid resulted in a number of skirmishes that forced the enemy forces to retreat. The chapter then began to reinforce the walls before any further assaults could be mounted.

Clashes In The Streets - Dharrovar

Points: 1500.

Deployment and Mission: Hammer and Anvil / Rapid Escalation.

Primary Objective: Scorched Earth.

Detachment: Anvil Siege Force.

Opponents Detachment: Combined Regiment.

At this time, a Rift Wardens company sized force was stationed in the Gandos Distrixt. The commander of the force was Captain Galadhus. The force consisted of intercessors and heavy intercessors, although many were scattered around the district in small squads. The enemy Militarum forces were a mix of war weary guardsmen and a number of battle tanks. With these forces, the enemy commander managed to repel the space marine intercessor squads. As soon as the counter-attacks began, Galadhus ordered the bulk of his forces to regroup and launch a full assault. The clashes lasted for two days. At this time, thunderhawks arrived and unloaded more intercessors into the rear of the enemy lines. Surrounded by the Emperor's finest, the enemy forces were decimated. The first Imperial victory in Gothos raised morale and the war was renewed.

Points: 1500.

Deployment and Mission: Search And Destroy / Supply Lines.

Primary Objective: Take And Hold.

Detachment: Vanguard Spearhead.

Opponents Detachment: Battle Host.

This small engagement took place over the course of a week between Aeldari forces and the Rift Wardens garrisoned around the ice mines of Kaelac's Bane. The battles were nothing but brief skirmish raids, but ultimately proved to be the final conflicts between the two forces in this region. The Aeldari sought to take their vengeance out on Hyperia Hivesprawl before joining forces with the Imperium briefly, against the Black Legion, ultimately driving Abaddon's forces from the surface of Vigilus.

The Black Fields Aflame! - Grendel

Points: 1500.

Mission: Kicking The Nest.

Detachment: Anvil Strike Force.

Opponents Detachment: Teleport Strike Force.

Agendas: Central Position, Duel of Honour and Malefic Hunter.

Opponent's Agendas: Headhunters and Reap A Tally.

The Grey Knights command refused Crowe's demands to continue the Black Fields offensive, as it was felt that the attack was faltering as the Grey Knight forces outran their supplies and tank support, and the Rift Wardens reserves were being moved to reinforce Ascension Hive. Instead, Crowe was ordered to plan an offensive to take the hive city.

Crowe's forces launched the next phase of the campaign by assaulting what was left of the space marines in the Black Fields. The assault was widened by further reinforcements in the next few days. During the next week, the Grey Knights pressure along the entire front was heavy and unrelenting. For the Rift Wardens, each day was spent in bloody fighting against an ever on-storming enemy force.

The second battle began shortly thereafter, with a new offensive north of the hive city itself. That developed into an advance which pushed the Rift Wardens, under chapter master Arthurus, back from the fields and into the walls of Ascension Hive. The Grey Knights then widened the attack to include the fields south of the hive sprawls. The Grey Knights breached the outer walls a couple days later at the battle of Apothe Gate.

The following morning, the Grey Knights seized control of the outer fields. Space marine casualties were heavy while the Grey Knights suffered far fewer losses. By noon of this day, Arthurus ordered his battle brothers into the city. Here they would make their stand.

Faced with these advances, Arthurus issued fresh ordered to hold the outer gates. With this, the Rift Wardens ceded control of the now burning fields to the enemy. They had to admit defeat at this time. Within three days, the Rift Wardens were forced back into the hive proper. Now, unless the situation changed, the Rift Wardens were forced into a vicious city fight for their own survival.

Jungle Warfare - Dharrovar

Points: 1500.

Deployment and Mission: Hammer And Anvil / Secret Intel.

Primary Objective: Supply Drop.

Detachment:  Anvil Siege Force.

Opponents Detachment: Combined Regiment.

South of the deep deserts on Dharrovar Secundus lays a vast expanse of alien jungle used for various military resources and hydropology. The jungles were home to a sizeable enemy Militarum force who were making Imperial inroads to the area difficult. As the war for Hindelgeist was going well, a request was directed to the Rift Wardens for assistance. Captain Oberon was dispatched with a force of battle brothers to assist in clearing out the enemy forces. However, things would not go well.

The enemy Militarum commanders contrived to deceive the Rift Wardens that an incoming attack was directed towards a forward firebase in the jungles, when their real goal was the orbital supply station at Jackasta Junction. Their expedition started moving towards the Junction but three squads of Catachans vanished somewhere in the foliage due to reasons unknown. Meanwhile the distraction force approached the firebase drawing the attention of the space marine defenders. The battle began with a surprise bombardment from enemy tanks before the main force charged forwards.

Three regiments attacked the Rift Wardens to secure their attention. Many of them knew this would be a suicidal mission but they would not be put down by the Imperial aggressors. The main Catachan regiment attacked the firebase directly while the others secured the perimeter and occupied the road through to the battle site. The Space Marines were soon significantly outnumbered. Oberon led a counter-attack which did inflict significant damage but by the time the enemy Militarum force retreated, the main attack on Jackasta Junction has been successful and they had escaped back into the jungle with a large amount of supplies and munitions.

Detachment: Vanguard Spearhead.

Opponents Detachment: Kauyon.

The Defence of Hive Galathon was a military engagement fought between the Rift Wardens chapter and the Tau Empire, during the Corinthian campaign. The space marines manned the hive's defences and a line of strong redoubts which extended eastwards along a trade road. The defenders were attacked by a Tau expeditionary force made up of three infantry divisions supported by numerous battle suits. However, the strength of the Rift Wardens, their entrenchments and supporting vanguard forces decimated the Tau attackers.

Battle Of The Caladon Flats - Corinthia

Points: 1500.

Deployment and Mission: Search And Destroy / Supply Lines.

Primary Objective: Priority Targets.

Detachment: Anvil Siege Force.

Opponents Detachment: Kauyon.

The Battle of the Caladon Flats was an engagement fought to capture fresh territory by the Tau Empire during the early days of the Corinthian Crusade. The Tau expeditionary force attacked an entrenched Rift Wardens garrison close to the main battle front. The battle marked the beginning of fighting in and around the Caladon Flats.

After the Tau victory at Hive Imperialis, the Imperial forces had been forced back to the southern territories as the Tau expeditionary force pushed eastwards, supported by extended supply lines. This advance depended on securing safe supply routes from the Tau main lines. As they expanded their territory, an attack on the Rift Warden positions become possible. During the day long assault, the space marine garrison defended a series of fortified redoubts and trenches on rising ground surrounded by flat grassland. They were eventually encircled by the Tau battlesuits and fire warrior teams, By the late afternoon, the Tau had captured the central redoubt and the remaining defences were occupied shortly afterwards.

Operation: Crucible - Dharrovar

Points: 1500.

Deployment and Mission: Crucible Of Battle / Supply Lines.

Primary Objective: Scorched Earth.

Detachment:  Gladius Task Force.

Opponents Detachment: Combined Regiment.

Operation Crucible was an engagement in the Imperial attempt to capture Hindelgeist. On the first day of the operation, the Rift Wardens captured significant territory. Their forces managed to capture two warehouse districts but fell short of reaching the hive's cathedral district. The cathedral district was the location of the ecclesiarchies' former head quarters prior to the planet's insurrection. Securing it was the primary target for the military operation. Two days later, the enemy forces found themselves severely outnumbered and five days after that, the cathedral district was seized by the Rift Wardens. Captain Lorgraine assumed control of the area before handing it over to the Adepta Sororitas after clearing out the final enemy resistance.

Defend The Fort - Feast of Blades

Points: 1500.

Deployment and Mission: Crucible Of Battle / Sweep And Clear.

Primary Objective: Priority Targets.

Detachment: Gladius Task Force.

Opponents Detachment: Gladius Task Force.

The Imperial Fists were concerned that their brothers in the Rift Wardens were not schooled in the ways of defending a siege. The chapter were often far too aggressive and less well trained. With this in mind, the second challenge for the Rift Wardens would be to hold and defend a small fortification from an Imperial Fists attack. The Imperial Fists simulated a artillery strike upon the defence works, then advanced with bolter fire followed by swift assaults to unseat the Rift Wardens. The initial report was confirmed as the Rift Wardens were swiftly overtaken and ousted from their position.

Fort Arctos - Kaelac's Bane

Points: 1500.

Mission: Conversion.

Secondary Objectives: Codex Warfare, Engage On All Fronts and No Prisoners.

Opponent's Secondary Objectives: Behind Enemy Lines, Scout The Enemy and Scry Futures.

With Captain Oberon and his force stuck in Fort Arctos following a retreat from the webway war zone, the Aeldari command used the opportunity to hurriedly reinforce their numbers around the fort - bringing in several wraith constructs and a wraithknight. By this time Oberon's force was reduced down to around 40 battle brothers.

When the Aeldari assaulted the fort, they breached the walls with ease and the space marines fell back to the center of the fort and prepared to defend the fort with their lives.

After two days of consecutive assaults the Rift Wardens numbers had been halved. Four separate waves of attack were repulsed with heavy casualties. In some places the Aeldari reached the space marine positions before being forced back by massed bolter fire. The attacks stopped in the early hours after four days, having failed to defeat the space marines. Even so, Oberon finally had to withdraw his forces due to the towering wraithknights, giving up the territory to the alien attackers.

First Battle For Typhonus City - Typhonus

Points: 1500

With reports of renegade space marines raiding from what used to be called the Maelstrom, the Rift Wardens have been diverted from their patrols to investigate. Arriving at the world of Typhonus the chapter finds it under attack by several small renegade war bands. Arthurus deploys his battle brothers to the planet's capital city and fights to defeat the smaller threats while the chapter launches strategic strikes across the planet.

Upon making planetfall the renegade marines approached the Rift Wardens positions. Their planetfall had been noticed and the forces of Chaos were eager to fight a real opponent over the pathetic planetary defence forces. When they arrived they found the Rift Wardens had heavily fortified their landing zone. Arthurus had laid a plan in motion and phobos units had arrived ahead of the main force and now moved to envelop the oncoming renegades.

Arthurus split his forces into three elements. Two were to march through the side streets and attack the renegades from the rear. Detachmnt A was given the task of clearing out any enemy fortifications near to the Rift Warden landing site. Detachment B was assigned to strike the advancing enemy forces from the rear while Detachment C was to assault from the front with chainsword and power weapons, fixing the enemy in position. Outriders would then circle and flank set up to block any anticipated lines of retreat. However, this would all hinge on how well each detachment performed.

Unfortunately the plan failed almost immediately. It seemed that the renegades were expecting such attack plans and modified their strategy to counter the Rift Wardens assault.

Starting out, detachments A and B advanced, trying to reach their targets in time. Detachment A became disorientated in the ruined streets and were pinned down by enemy fire in the ruins. Detachment B likewise ran into unexpected resistance and were forced to fall back and regroup.

Three hours into the battle, the Rift Wardens were no closer to achieving their aim. Rather than wait for his forces too consolidate, Arthurus ordered his entire force to surge forth and attack the renegade positions. However, without the initial attack's success, the chapter faced more enemy forces than had been expected. The Rift Wardens suffered heavy casualties, leaving the battlefield largely in enemy control. The space marines were now becoming more and more outnumbered. Regretfully, Arthurus pulled his forces back to the landing site and conducted a defensive war. Arthurus hoped that elsewhere across the planet, that his captains were achieving better successes.

Xenos Retaliation - Talos

 Points: 1500

This battle took place shortly after the third battle for the Krithian Peninsula. The Rift Wardens and Tyranids fought to determine control of the borderlands that linked the peninsula to the main continent. Arthurus considered this a test of the strength of the remaining Tyranids and whether it was possible to advance and drive them back once and for all.

The engagement took place north of the previous battles along the banks of a wide fast flowing river. During a night attack, the Tyranids defeated the Rift Warden forces, driving them back from the defensive positions along the river. This allowed the hive mind to bring up even more reinforcements.

Battle of the Deinos Trenchworks - Mortwald

Points: 1500.

Mission: Data Scry-Salvage.

Secondary Objectives: Bring It Down, Engage On All Fronts and No Prisoners..

Opponent's Secondary Objectives: Engage On All Fronts, Grind Them Down and Raise The Banners High.

The Astra Militarum forces attempting to defend the outer defences of Mortwald request desperate aid as their lines were being overrun by forces of the Iron Warriors. Despite waging a war of attrition against the traitor forces already within the city walls, a detachment was dispatched to aid in the fight against the Rift Warden's mortal enemy. Lieutenant Aurellius was placed in charge and upon reaching the Deinos Trenchworks he immediately abandoned any idea of a major offensive feeling that such a course of action would come at too great a cost. Instead, he intended to secure the defences and maintain a strong link back to his battle brothers on the walls of the hive city.

To achieve this, the space marines would need to capture portions of the trench works currently held by the enemy. The plan was to attack the Iron Warriors with everything at his disposal while the Astra Militarum fought to keep further enemy reinforcements arriving to bolster their numbers. As with most Rift Warden attacks the initial attack was impressive but achieved little. The trenchworks were obscured by mist and smoke from the battle, while the Iron Warriors had ample opportunity to prepare for the Rift Wardens arrival.

One detachment attempted to capture the trenches with a determined assault but the attack collapsed as they were confronted by strong-point and artillery fire. As a consequence when the main force arrived they found themselves under heavy fire from obliterators higher up the trenches who were all too accurate with their attacks, The Rift Wardens retreated, still pouring bolter fire into the enemy positions.

As evening began to fall, Aurellius led his battle brothers forward, scouting out into the desert wastes in an attempt to out flank the Iron Warrior positions. By this time the air was thick with mist and smoke from the battle so they had little idea of where the enemy was located. Unfortunately, the marines ended up being easy targets for the obliterators and enemy tanks. The advance was halted and the space marines went to ground in the ash dunes. The battle to dislodge the Iron Warriors was going to be harder than first imagined.
