This engagement began in good clear weather and the Rift Wardens were able to fall back enough to set up a defensive position. Pauses were made due to sudden dust storms and to allow time for orbital bombardments on the advancing daemons. However, the daemons shrugged off these problems and came through them largely unharmed. Captain Lorgraine consulted with captain Andred and decided to reduce the scope of operations against the daemons, cancelling attack plans and reducing Andred's outriders to limited operations. Operations then resumed with an attack on the daemons northern flank, although these attacks were withdrawn as more dust storms swept through the region. Lorgraine ceased offensive operations, except for small attacks intended to improve positions and divert Be'lakor's attention from the main space marine force.
