Due to the number of conflicts the Rift Wardens have fought against other loyalist space marine chapters, they have been placed on a hundred year penance standing guard over the volcanic prison world of Carceri. After several years, the chapter found itself under attack by the Raven Guard for reasons unknown. The invading chapter clearly had a goal somewhere in the vast prison complex bu the Rift Wardens were not prepared to let them achieve that goal.
The first engagement fought between the two space marine chapters was centered around the outer landing pads and the grav-rails into the prison complex. The Rift Wardens on patrol found themselves caught between two vanguard teams led by captain Shrike. The battle was fierce along the length of the grav-rail and only the arrival of captain Vortigern prevented a total defeat at the hands of the Raven Guard. For nearly nine hours, the battle was largely a firefight between entrenched forces. The battle ended as the Raven Guard received further reinforcements and the Rift Wardens fell back to defend the prison complex.
